As soon as #CabinetReshuffle took place and Nirmala Sitaraman named the defence minister, the debate on she being represented as 1st woman defence minister started amongst Tweepals.
Dear NaMorons, Indira Gandhi was India’s first female defence minister, Nirmala Sitharaman is second.

India gets first woman defence minister in Nirmala. Yes, Indira Gandhi also was, but that was more ex-officio.

The fact is Indira Gandhi held the defence minister portfolio as Indian Prime Minister by herself. And Nirmala Sitaraman has been appointed as a full time female Defence Minister for the first time in India.

Indira Gandhi never considered herself as a feminist or anything. She was the right person at the right position working for people.Period

This makes the whole debate an inconclusive and point-less. However instead of debating on what number Nirmala Sitaraman holding that position we should be proud that a woman is elevated to defend our nation once again.
